Step-by-Step Hiring Process
- 1. Complete Application on City Website: Start by submitting your official application through the City of Fort Worth’s Job Board. Ensure all information is accurate and complete.
- 2. Take Civil Service Test: All applicants must take and pass the Civil Service exam, which measures reading comprehension, writing skills, and judgment required for law enforcement roles.
- 3. Complete Personal History Book: You must submit a detailed personal history packet outlining your background, employment, education, and any prior legal or military service.
- 4. Physical Resiliency Assessment: This timed physical test evaluates your strength, endurance, and agility through exercises like running, obstacle courses, and simulated police tasks.
- 5. Polygraph Examination: A certified examiner will conduct a polygraph to verify the accuracy of your personal history and ensure honesty throughout the process.
- 6. Oral Board Interview: You’ll appear before a panel of officers and department personnel who will assess your communication skills, decision-making, and overall suitability for the role.
- 7. Medical Exam: A licensed physician will perform a complete physical examination to confirm that you meet the health and fitness standards required for duty.

What Is the FWPD's Tattoo Policy?
Tattoos are permitted but must not be offensive, gang-related, or located on the face or neck. Visible tattoos will be reviewed during the hiring process and must conform to department standards. FWPD reserves the right to request tattoos be covered while in uniform.

Getting Certified in Texas
If you are not currently certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), you’ll earn certification upon completing the FWPD Police Academy. Out-of-state officers or military police may be eligible for accreditation through TCOLE reciprocity.
